The Evaluation Process

New Patients

  • New patients must reside in Massachusetts or New Hampshire.
  • An in-office evaluation is required for your first appointment.
  • In-home ADHD testing will be available in November 2024.
  • Location: 275 Turnpike St. Ste 206 | Canton, MA 02021

Prepare for the evaluation

  • Call the Office to Confirm Wait Times: Before proceeding with any paperwork or intake forms, it's crucial to contact the office to check current wait times and availability. Specifically, speak to Laura, our practice manager, to ensure the evaluation fits within your timeline.

  • Collect Relevant Medical Records: Ensure you have any relevant medical records from previous providers, especially those related to your ADHD evaluation, such as diagnostic testing, psychiatric evaluations, and lab work (e.g., EKG, blood work) that are less than a year old. These will need to be uploaded to the intake form once it's time.

  • Complete All Intake Forms and Assessments: After speaking with the office and collecting necessary documents, fill out the required intake forms, clinical assessments, and consent forms.

  • Schedule the Evaluation After Forms Are Complete: Only once all forms are completed should you call back to schedule your evaluation.

  • Do Not Complete Forms Prematurely: You should not fill out any intake forms until after speaking with Laura to avoid wasting time if there is a waitlist or other scheduling conflicts.

Pre-test Instructions

  • We also suggest that you get enough sleep the night before, as fatigue can impact the results of the T.O.V.A.
  • On the day of the TOVA test, please hold all stimulants and caffeine to ensure accurate results. Continue all other medications as directed. However, if you are already on a stimulant and are coming in to evaluate the efficacy of your current treatment, please take your medication as directed.

The Evaluation

The evaluation will take approximately 2 hours and will consist of:

  • A clinical interview.
  • A review of pertinent medical, social, and family history.
  • The T.O.V.A. test.
  • Interpretation of T.O.V.A. results—you will be provided a copy of the report for your records.
  • A physical exam, which includes checking  vital signs, and performing an in-office EKG and/or urine drug screen, if indicated.

If medical or family history suggests an indication, we will perform an EKG in-office to ensure safety and gather necessary cardiovascular information. This is especially important for patients undergoing ADHD treatment, as certain medications can impact heart health, and the EKG helps to rule out any potential heart-related concerns that could affect your plan of care.

If your test results and clinical history suggest an ADHD diagnosis, your provider will discuss both non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatment options with you. We provide medication management, but it is not a requirement to be tested. It is your right to seek treatment elsewhere if you prefer. Please note that we do not provide ADHD coaching or therapy at this time.
