IVA-2 Pre-Test Instructions

Preparing for the IVA-2 Test

To help ensure reliable and clinically useful test results, please review and follow these instructions before completing your IVA-2 computerized testing session.

The Night Before Testing

  • Get adequate sleep the night before your test. Fatigue and insufficient sleep can affect attention, concentration, and test performance.
  • Continue your usual routine unless your provider has given you different instructions.

The Day of Testing

  • Eat normally and stay adequately hydrated before testing.
  • Avoid excessive caffeine and energy drinks before your testing session.
  • Bring or use any glasses or hearing devices you normally need.
  • Choose a time when you can complete the assessment without interruptions or distractions.

Prescription Stimulant Medication Instructions

Whether you should take or hold your prescribed stimulant medication depends on the purpose of your testing.

If you are being evaluated for a possible ADHD diagnosis:  Please hold all stimulants and caffeine to ensure accurate results.  Continue all other medications as directed.

If you are completing IVA-2 testing to evaluate how well your current ADHD medication is working:

Take your medication exactly as directed by your provider. Do not stop, hold, or change any prescribed medication unless specifically instructed to do so by your healthcare provider.

Requirements for Testing From Home

If you are completing IVA-2 testing remotely, you must have:

  • A compatible desktop or laptop computer
  • A computer mouse
  • A reliable internet connection
  • Google Chrome browser
  • A quiet, private testing environment
  • Approximately 30 minutes of uninterrupted time
  • Any glasses or hearing devices you normally use

Phones and tablets cannot be used to complete the IVA-2 test.

Before Starting Your Test

  • Close unnecessary programs, browser tabs, and applications.
  • Silence your phone and disable computer notifications when possible.
  • Turn off televisions, music, and other sources of distraction.
  • Make sure your computer mouse is working properly.
  • Use the restroom and take care of other needs before beginning.
  • Make sure you have enough uninterrupted time to complete the entire testing session.

During the Test

The IVA-2 computerized assessment typically takes approximately 15–20 minutes.

During testing:

  • Follow all instructions carefully.
  • Complete the assessment in one uninterrupted session.
  • Do not use your phone or other electronic devices.
  • Do not listen to music or watch television.
  • Do not eat, drink, or engage in other activities while testing.
  • Do not receive assistance, coaching, or reminders from another person during the test.
  • Do not leave the testing area until the assessment is complete.

For children completing the assessment remotely, a parent or caregiver may assist with setting up the computer and starting the testing session but should not provide assistance, coaching, reminders, or feedback during the actual test.

After Testing

Once you have completed the IVA-2 assessment, your results will be reviewed and interpreted by your psychiatric provider as one component of your comprehensive ADHD evaluation.

IVA-2 testing does not diagnose ADHD on its own. Your provider will consider your clinical interview, symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, standardized rating scales, testing results, and other relevant information when determining a diagnosis and making treatment recommendations.

Important Reminder

Failure to follow testing instructions, significant interruptions, outside assistance, technical problems, inadequate sleep, or other factors may affect the validity or interpretation of your results.

If you experience a significant technical problem or interruption during testing, please contact our office before attempting to repeat the assessment.
